DIP to Thoroughly Vet Application to Trademark the Name “Nene Royal”

The Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) plans to summon the person who applied to register “Nene Royal” as a trademark. Officials want to confirm whether the applicant has permission to use the name.
A social media post claimed that the application was submitted electronically.
DIP Director-General Jittima Srithaporn stressed that registering a trademark does not automatically give the applicant exclusive rights to a name. Each application will still be carefully checked to see whether it meets the legal requirements.
She added that the department takes the protection of well-known names seriously, including those of artists, actors, actresses, and other public figures. The goal is to prevent confusion and misunderstanding among the public.
Using a public figure’s name as a trademark without the owner’s consent would amount to unlawful use or an attempt to profit from someone else’s name. In such cases, the DIP may reject the application.
During its review, the registrar will examine the evidence the applicant provides, paying particular attention to the applicant’s link to the name being registered.
“Nene Royal” is the stage name of Thai teen rocker Rattikarn Amloy, who won America’s Got Talent 2026.
